The Morristown East High School Marching Hurricane Band

The East High Marching Hurricane Band is the instrumental ensemble that meets during the fall semester of each school year. The Marching Hurricane Band is a very fun, high energy, and unique learning experience. Students will learn elements of marching, marching and playing, discipline, and leadership. The foremost function of this ensemble is to provide entertainment both in the stands and during halftime at all home and away football games. The Marching Hurricanes also travel to at least two regional competitions during the school year, and also participate in two parades. After football season has finished for the year, all members of the Marching Hurricanes transition into preparation for the Winter Concert held near the end of school each December. During this portion of the fall semester, we will prepare selections from a variety of holiday sources.

Concert Band

The East High Concert Band is the instrumental ensemble that meets during the spring semester of each school year. Concert Band is an ensemble that takes the energy of marching band and focuses it into an indoor setting. Here students learn the basics of controlling their individual sound, as well as an expanded focus on musicality, style, and expression. During the course of the semester the Concert Band will travel to either the Upper or Middle Area ETSBOA Concert Festival (this is dependent on where the festivals fall in the school calendar) where we will perform for adjudication and rating in front of a panel of distinguished judges as well as our peers. Also during the course of the spring semester, students will have the opportunity to participate in a variety of special settings. Among these are All-East Senior Clinic, All-East Junior Clinic, Jazz Clinic, Solo & Ensemble, and All-State Band Clinic. These clinics provide students an opportunity to distinguish themselves on their individual instruments, and also give them the chance to perform in a variety of settings. I would encourage parents to in turn encourage their children to audition for these clinics, as they are some the most fun trips you can take during high school!
